INTERACTIVE E-LEARNING TEXTBOOK AND INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE

What do you want to study?

Within the framework of the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures, 2013-2022, the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty, in conjunction with the Kazakhstan-Indian Foundation, is implementing a project to develop an interactive textbook on intercultural dialogue for schoolchildren of 5-7 grades (11-13 years old) for schools in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. This textbook is an integral part of a more general project on the creation of a web platform - an innovative project to elaborate a site to accumulate multi-unit information on digital education, resource development, research, forums, etc.

In this regard, on September 12, 2017 was held a methodological training seminar “Interactive E-learning Textbook and “Intercultural Dialogue” Online Platform: Methods of Teaching and Implementation” in order to introduce the online platform and the basics of this course, as well as its subsequent implementation and effective teaching. The seminar was organized by the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty and the Kazakhstan-Indian Foundation. The Kazakhstan Intelligence School (KIS) kindly provided the facilities for the seminar.

The seminar was attended by representatives of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, UNESCO Associated Schools in Almaty, Kazakhstan National Federation of UNESCO Clubs, UNESCO Almaty Chairs, directors and teachers of schools in Almaty and Almaty region, (full list in the appendix).

"The aim of the seminar was to familiarize the participants with the project on creating the "Intercultural Dialogue" online platform and an interactive textbook, as well as receive a feedback in the form of recommendations, suggestions and comments."

The Seminar consisted of three stages:
1. Greeting remarks and the introduction of the online platform and interactive textbook (Arina Plohih, Laura Yrerekesheva, Bakhyt Maukeyev, Tatyana Yurchenko).

2. Presentations by the representatives of UNESCO and city schools, evaluation and recommendations for the "Intercultural Dialogue" project (Leonid Kim, Yelena Maksimova, Tatyana Inyushina, Gennady Selyutin, Laila Akhmetova, Sabina Chukayeva, Galina Samatokina, Alfiya Khismatullina).

3. Question and answer session.

As a result of the Seminar the following suggestions and recommendations were made: On the interactive textbook:

  1. receive the expertise of the Ministry of Education and Science as the textbook must comply with Kazakhstan's educational standards;
  2. determine the status of the textbook as a mandatory or elective course;
  3. clarify the issue of remuneration for coordinators and moderators.

On the online platform:

  1. structure the contents of the online platform;
  2. combine efforts in filling the platform contents;
  3. create a special course for teachers, conduct a series of training seminars;
  4. create a roadmap for project implementation. For strengthening joint cooperation

For strengthening joint cooperation:

  1. to create a project movement at schools and between UNESCO schools and clubs (for example, collecting folklore).Project activities should not be limited to one school, but go beyond, expressed in research and creative activity;
  2. to connect secondary and higher education;
  3. to cooperate with city and school libraries;
  4. to establish and develop a festival movement (for example, the festival of friendship);
  5. to organize thematic summer camps;
  6. a suggestion from the director of MAB College to provide facilities for events.

In general, the seminar showed positive results, valuable recommendations were received and initiatives for further cooperation were expressed, the expediency and relevance of the "Intercultural Dialogue" project were justified.
