In 2015 Kazakhstan-Indian Foundation launched the project Children's Painting Competition "The Bright Colors of India". The competition was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations through enhancing the knowledge and awareness of the importance of cross-cultural interaction, discovery of other cultures, in particular, the culture of India. The project was held in support of initiatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan to promote ideas of peace and intercultural dialogue within the frames of UNESCO Decade of the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022).

Being held for the first time, the competition took place in Aktobe in partnership with the Akimat of Aktyubinskaya oblast and Aktobe City Schoolchildren Palace.  There were more than 75 works submitted by the children studying at the Aktobe City Palace and the Center for Children and Youth Creativity. After consideration totally 9 works have been chosen as winners, in three age groups – 6-8 years, 9-12 years, 13-15 years.

The award ceremony that took place on November 7, 2015 in the Aktobe Palace of the People of Kazakhstan’s Assembly, was inaugurated by Akim of Aktyubinskaya oblast H.E. Mr. Berdibek M. Saparbayev and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Mr. Harsh Kumar Jain. The ceremony was followed by spectacular gala-concert performed by Aktobe City Schoolchildren Palace children groups and Indian classical Kathak dance and music performers from Indian Cultural Centre in Astana.

The Calendar 2017 gives the glimpses of the intercultural festival. It includes the pictures drawn by young artists, both winners and not. It was purposefully intended not to indicate in the Calendar the winner’s place, while mentioning the names and age of participants only. All pictures are masterpieces illuminating inner feelings and beautiful senses of children, the spirit of openness and bright world. They also show the way, how Kazakhstan children, that have never been to India before, percept and see this country. The wise and creative guidance of children’s mentors and teachers is highly appreciated too.

Without mentioning all names (otherwise it could take a separate page!) we wholeheartedly thank all our partners contributing towards success of the event.

With this calendar we invite you to travel throughout the year in the wonderful world of discovery and intercultural dialogue!
